This apple bread was the 2002 Louisiana State Fair 3rd Place winner. It's great to bake and fill your home with the warm smell of fresh apples and cinnamon. You can mix different kinds of apples, such as granny smith and honeycrisp, or keep it consistent with Jonathans or Jonagolds.

Ingredients
2c.sugar
3/4c.shortening
2eggs
1tsp.vanilla extract
3c.all-purpose flour
1tsp.salt
1tsp.cinnamon
1/4tsp.nutmeg
1tsp.Clabber Girl Baking Powder
3cored and coarsely chopped apples
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease and flour two 8x4-inch loaf pans; set aside.
In a large bowl cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs one at a time and mix well. Add vanilla. In a separate bowl combine flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and Clabber Girl Baking Powder. Add the chopped apples to the flour mixture and toss gently. Pour into creamed mixture and stir until combined.
Pour into prepared loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees F. for one hour or until loaves test done. (A toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.)
